King Abdullah Vows Severest Punishments
Following the tragic rise in the death toll to eight martyrs and the emergence of harrowing eyewitness testimonies, Jordanian King Abdullah II has sternly vowed to enforce the severest legal punishments against those responsible for the heinous terrorist assault.
Furthermore, the devastating security incident occurred when armed extremists opened indiscriminate fire with automatic rifles during a crowded funeral gathering inside St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in the village of Hammoud within the Karak Governorate.
As a result of this brutal attack, twenty-seven others sustained varying injuries, prompting emergency response teams to swiftly transfer the wounded to military and local hospitals for urgent medical care.
Meanwhile, King Abdullah emphasized during hospital visits that the blood of Jordanians is precious and that the state will strike with an iron fist against anyone attempting to undermine national security and unity.
Concurrently, Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya categorized the assault as a horrific terrorist act executed by a radical extremist group, while Public Security Directorate chief Major General Obeidallah Maaytah confirmed that security forces have identified the local suspects and established an airtight perimeter around the governorate to capture the fleeing gunmen.
Finally, local survivors recounted terrifying moments of bloodshed inside the church nave, drawing painful parallels to the 2016 Karak Castle incident as the Hashemite Kingdom stands firmly united against all forms of terror.
